Description
As the Law Clerk, you will develop a basic understanding of the legal foundations of a renewable energy project developer and owner. You will deploy your outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail to create a more efficient method for accessing information about Scout’s legal agreements. The Law Clerk will report directly to the General Counsel and other attorneys on Scout’s legal team.
You will be responsible for developing a database of executed contracts and providing support on a range of other legal tasks. The organization resulting from your work will help Scout’s legal team build a strong foundation for the firm’s future growth. Key tasks will include the following:
- Reviewing existing non-disclosure agreements (NDAs), master service agreement (MSAs), master consulting service agreements (MCSAs), engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts, and real estate agreements, among others.
- Identifying key terms and conditions, major deviations from standard agreements, and any other issues of concern.
- Assisting with revising contract forms.
- Assisting with entity formation and corporate governance related tasks.
- Where appropriate, make strategic recommendations to manage risk.
Beyond these contract duties, additional tasks may include the following:
- Completing policy and legal research projects for Director-Level team members.
- Diligence support for M&A transactions.
- Observing relevant discussions with the development, construction, and financing teams, as possible.
Furthermore, you will be exposed to the energy industry and the complicated regulatory ecosystem within which it resides, as well as the role of in-house counsel.
The time commitment for this internship is fairly flexible. We anticipate that the Law Clerk will work approximately 15-20 hours per week during the summer, with the possibility of approximately 10 hours per week while classes are in session.
Requirements:
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a law degree.
- Interest in business law or the energy industry.
- Strong writing skills.
- Detail-oriented with superior organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a flat organization, successfully leveraging the expertise of multiple colleagues in different lines of reporting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
Timeline and Location
This position will begin in May 2025. The internship will be a full-time (40 hr/week) commitment for the duration of the 12-week internship program. Our ideal candidate will be able to work out of our Boulder office during the duration of the internship program per the program requirements.

Compensation
Hourly Rate: $30-40/hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
